Most homes have a running list of small jobs that never quite get done. A TV that should be on the wall, a drywall ding by the stairs, curtains still in the box, a ceiling fan that wobbles, a door that sticks every time it rains. We handle all of it. Norem Contracting is a licensed Arizona general contractor that does handyman and small-install work across the Phoenix metro, with the same care on a single curtain rod as on a full remodel. No job is too small, and because we are licensed, no job is too big either.
What We Handle
If it is a small home-improvement task, odds are it is on our list. Common calls include:
- TV mounting: wall-mounted on drywall, plaster, or block, leveled and anchored, with cords managed
- Drywall patch and repair: from nail holes and dings to door-knob holes and water-stained patches, taped, mudded, and sanded ready for paint
- Curtain rods, drapery, and window treatments: measured, mounted high and wide, and anchored to hold
- Light fixtures and ceiling fan swaps: replacing existing fixtures and fans, and converting a light to a fan where there is a box for it
- Furniture and equipment assembly: flat-pack furniture, shelving units, patio sets, and sheds put together right the first time
- Washer and dryer hookup: connecting and leveling units, with new hoses and venting as needed
- Door adjustments: planing or rehanging doors that stick, fixing strikes, and sorting out latches that will not catch
- Mounting art, mirrors, and shelving: hung level and anchored to the wall it is actually on, not just the drywall
- Weatherstripping and caulking: sealing doors, windows, and wet areas to keep the heat and water out
- Small carpentry: trim, baseboard, shelving, and the little fixes that fall between trades
Do not see your task here? Ask. If it is residential and it is small, it is probably something we do. For anything bigger, the same crew also handles full remodels and construction, which you can see on our services hub.
Window Treatments and Drapery
Window treatments are one of our most-requested small jobs, and they are easy to get wrong. Good drapery hung right makes a room look finished. Hung wrong, the same panels look crooked and cheap. The difference is the measuring and the mounting, not the fabric. We measure each window, then mount the rod high and wide, set well above the trim and run past the edges of the glass, so the room feels taller and the open panels stack off the window instead of over it. Anchoring is the part you cannot shortcut. Older Phoenix and Arcadia homes are often plaster or block rather than framed drywall, so where a bracket lands on a stud we screw straight into it, and where it does not we use anchors rated for plaster or masonry, so a rod loaded with panels never works loose. The result is ready-made panels that read as custom.
Why a Licensed GC Beats an Unlicensed Handyman
In Arizona, an unlicensed handyman can only legally take jobs under $1,000 in total cost, labor and materials combined. That cap exists for a reason, and it puts homeowners in a bind. The moment a small job turns out to need a little more, the unlicensed guy either has to walk away or break the law. Norem Contracting has no cap, because we hold a Class B general residential contractor license, ROC #365090. We are also licensed, bonded, and insured, so if something goes wrong, you are covered, not on the hook. And you get one accountable company for the whole house. The same crew that hangs your curtains today can remodel the bathroom next month, with no new vetting and no patchwork of handymen who each only do one thing.
Pricing and Booking
Small jobs are priced per visit, and every estimate is free. There is a minimum visit charge, since a trip across the metro costs time and fuel whether the job takes ten minutes or two hours, so the most cost-effective way to book us is to stack several small tasks into one visit. Tell us the full list up front and we come prepared to knock it all out in one trip. As a rough anchor, hanging curtains and a rod runs about $75 to $200 per window, or roughly $300 to $800 for a full living room, depending on the rods, the height, and the wall type. Most other tasks we price after we hear the scope, which is exactly what the free estimate is for. To get on the schedule, send us your list and we will give you a clear number.

Handyman FAQ
Is there a minimum charge, or a job too small? There is a minimum visit charge for small jobs, since a trip across the metro costs us time and fuel either way. But no job is too small. A single TV mount, one curtain rod, or a quick drywall patch is welcome work, and the smart move is to stack a few small tasks into one visit so the minimum covers more.
Are you actually licensed, or a handyman? Both. Norem Contracting is a licensed Arizona general contractor, ROC #365090, that also does handyman and small-install work. That matters because Arizona caps unlicensed handymen at $1,000 per job. We have no cap, so the same crew can hang your curtains today and remodel the bathroom next month, all insured and under one license.
Do you hang curtains and window treatments? Yes, and we do it right. We measure each window, mount the rods high and wide so the room feels taller and the glass shows, and anchor the brackets into studs, plaster, or block so nothing pulls loose. Hanging curtains and a rod usually runs about $75 to $200 per window, or roughly $300 to $800 for a full living room.
Can you do a whole punch list in one visit? That is the ideal way to use us. Send the full list ahead of time, mounting, patches, fixtures, assembly, and a sticking door, and we come prepared to knock it all out in one trip. Bundling tasks into a single visit is the most cost-effective way to book handyman work, and it is how property managers use us between turnovers.
