Norem Contracting installs the heavy chandeliers homeowners buy from Restoration Hardware, Arhaus, Pottery Barn, West Elm and the other designer lighting brands, across Phoenix and Scottsdale, including the ceiling reinforcement most of them need. In August 2026 we hung a 184-pound Arhaus Delsie Oval Tiered Chandelier in a central Phoenix dining room for $2,900 over two days. The existing ceiling box was rated for 50 pounds, so the job was mostly ceiling work: we opened the drywall, built blocking, fastened a steel plate into the blocking, and patched and painted the ceiling smooth again. A three-person crew assembled and hung the fixture from scaffolding.
The brands themselves say this is not a job for the delivery crew or a ladder and a screwdriver. Arhaus's product page for the Delsie reads: "Chandeliers weighing more than 50 lbs. cannot be mounted alone to a standard outlet box and require additional bracing above the ceiling where they are to be installed. Professional installation is required." Our chandelier and light fixture installation page covers the service itself.
Who Installs a Restoration Hardware or Arhaus Chandelier in Phoenix?
Norem Contracting, a licensed Class B general contractor in Phoenix (Arizona ROC #365090), installs the heavy chandeliers homeowners buy from Restoration Hardware, Arhaus, Pottery Barn and West Elm, along with the ceiling work those fixtures need: blocking or a rated brace fastened into the framing and, when the ceiling has to be opened, the patch and paint afterward. We hang fixtures from Visual Comfort, Serena & Lily, Rejuvenation, Hubbardton Forge, Currey & Company and the rest of the catalogs people order from, across Phoenix, Scottsdale and Paradise Valley.
Past 50 pounds, the ceiling itself becomes most of the work. The fixture goes onto a listed brace where the framing and the rating allow it, or onto blocking built between the framing, from the attic where there is one and through the drywall where there is not, and when the drywall is opened, the patch is primed and painted to disappear. After that the fixture is assembled, raised, leveled and connected on the existing circuit. A general contractor can carry all of that on one contract. Norem Contracting is not affiliated with Restoration Hardware, Arhaus, Williams-Sonoma, Pottery Barn or West Elm. We install the fixtures their customers buy.
Does White-Glove Delivery Hang the Chandelier?
No. Arhaus, Pottery Barn, West Elm, Rejuvenation and Lulu and Georgia all say in their own delivery terms that the crew does not install lighting. The crate gets to your door, or to the room, and stops there. Read the wording before you count on the delivery day being the install day.
- Arhaus: "Items such as lighting, mirrors, wall art, vanities, and washstands will not be unboxed, inspected, assembled, or installed. Our delivery team is not permitted to install any electrical equipment, plumbing, or wall-mounted items." White Glove Delivery is $349, or $499 for oversized pieces.
- Rejuvenation: "Fragile or bulky items are sent to your home with Truck Delivery ... Since these items require professional installation, unpacking and setup are not included for truck delivery items."
- Lulu and Georgia: its white glove service "does not include any installation of product," and its site says most ceiling fixtures need a licensed electrician.
- Pottery Barn: the delivery text printed on its lighting product pages excludes lighting and anything that needs home installation from its flat-rate and white glove service.
- West Elm: its FAQ says white glove delivery unpacks and assembles furniture but installation is not included, and most of its lighting ships by parcel to the front door anyway.
So the crate sits in the dining room, and the next question is who opens it. If we see the product page and the room before delivery, the ceiling can be ready the day the fixture lands.
How Much Does a Restoration Hardware or Arhaus Chandelier Weigh?
The Arhaus tiered and round chandeliers in the table below are listed at 148 to 431 pounds, and Restoration Hardware's spec sheet puts the 36-inch Helix at 261 pounds. The Pottery Barn and Rejuvenation pieces below run about 50 to 62 pounds, right at or past the 50-pound line where a standard ceiling box stops being enough. These are the brands' own listed weights, read from their product pages and spec sheets in September 2026.

Manufacturer-listed fixture weights, September 2026. Shipping weight runs higher: a 22-pound Currey chandelier has a 225-pound shipping weight.
The notes column spells out what the ceiling needs, in each brand's words: bracing above the ceiling, support independent of the box, a structural member, a professional. If the product page shows no weight, plan around the shipping weight on the freight paperwork.
What Does Arhaus Mean by "Bracing Above the Ceiling"?
It means the fixture's weight goes into the framing instead of the electrical box. The National Electrical Code's rule for ceiling outlets, 314.27(A)(2), requires a ceiling box to support a fixture of at least 50 pounds, and a heavier fixture has to be supported independently of the box unless the box is listed and marked for the weight. The City of Phoenix's adoption of the 2023 NEC, Ordinance G-7397, took effect August 1, 2025, and its local amendments leave that rule as written. Hubbell's RACO 125, a standard 4-inch octagon steel box, and Carlon's B520A nail-on plastic box are each rated for 50 pounds of fixture by their makers, and an existing box nobody has identified has no known rating at all.
The next step up is a fan-rated brace box, and its fan rating is not its fixture rating. The code caps any fan box at 70 pounds of fan, NEC 314.27(C), while the makers rate the fixture load by joist spacing: Hubbell's RACO 936 retrofit brace carries 110 pounds of fixture at 16 inches and 50 pounds at 24, Westinghouse's Saf-T-Brace carries 150 at 16 and 50 at 24, and Hubbell's new-construction Kwik-Brace 926 tops the group at 210 pounds at 16 inches and 90 at 24. Until someone has looked above the ceiling, the 24-inch number is the one to plan on. Above those ratings, and above the 50-pound line anywhere nobody has seen the framing yet, the fixture hangs from blocking and a steel plate fastened into the framing, and the box only houses the splices.
What Did It Take to Hang a 184-Pound Arhaus Chandelier?
It took Norem Contracting two days and a three-person crew to hang a 184-pound Arhaus Delsie Oval Tiered Chandelier in a central Phoenix dining room. The homeowner had ordered the 63-inch size, which Arhaus lists at 184.08 pounds, for a room with an 11-foot ceiling. The existing ceiling box was rated for 50 pounds, so at 184 pounds the quote was written around structural blocking and a steel mounting plate from the start.
- Scaffolding first. It went up under the mounting point, because raising a 184-pound fixture to an 11-foot ceiling is not ladder work.
- Power off, old fixture down, ceiling open. With the circuit off and tested dead, the old fixture came down and we cut the drywall at the mounting point to expose the framing. A supply register sat right beside the spot, and the cavity had insulated flex duct running through it, which the quote had already flagged as a possibility.
- Blocking and a steel plate. 2x6 blocking built between the ceiling framing and fastened at both ends with structural screws, worked around the duct without moving it, then a steel mounting plate rated for the load fastened into the blocking. On any ceiling we open, truss chords and webs never get cut, notched or drilled. Blocking goes between the members.
- Patch, finish, paint. Drywall patch fitted, taped, mudded, sanded flush, primed and painted to match the smooth ceiling. This is the part that needs the second day, because the coats have to dry.
- Raise the frame. Three people raised the frame to the plate and hung it on its rods.
- Glass, level, connect. Arhaus says the Delsie needs some assembly on delivery to protect its glass, so the reeded panels went onto the frame by hand once it was up. The 63-inch oval was leveled, connected on the existing circuit and tested.
The duct shaped the job. The blocking had to be built around it so the fixture could stay at the existing location instead of moving to wherever the framing happened to be. You find that out only once the ceiling is open, and our quote covered it with a concealed-conditions line: if there is no usable framing or the duct is in the way, we stop and review the options with the owner before any additional work, and we never change the price on our own. The full story is in hanging an oversized chandelier in a Phoenix dining room.
What Does Restoration Hardware's Five-Times Ceiling Rule Mean?
Restoration Hardware's spec sheet for the 36-inch Helix Chandelier requires a ceiling that can carry five times the fixture's weight. The sheet lists the fixture at 118.4 kilograms, 261 pounds, and then states: "The ceiling must have at least the capacity of 5 times the weight of the ceiling light. For this light at least a ceiling capacity of 592kg (1305.11lb) is required." The same sheet asks for a junction box "50LB. MIN. FIXTURE RATED," says the mounting screws "need to be screwed into a solid support structure inside the ceiling," and adds: "Use an authorized and certified electrician for consultation and installation. Electrician must be familiar with commercial-type applications of very heavy chandeliers."
RH's 41-inch Crystal Halo sheet, for a 73-pound fixture, carries the same electrician sentence and asks for a ceiling capacity of 145 kilograms, 320 pounds, about 4.4 times the fixture's weight. RH's sheets don't say why. We read the multiple as a safety margin for the loads a hanging fixture sees beyond its own weight: the shock of raising it, someone leveling it, a bulb change from a ladder. RH's hardware expects wood behind the canopy, too. A homeowner on the Houzz forum wrote: "The hardware provided to install this chandelier would have you screw the Fixture stud to a ceiling beam. I have a metal box and no ceiling beam." That fixture weighed 35 pounds, and the owner ended up hiring out the install.
Visual Comfort's install guide for the Talia 63-inch ring chandelier also asks for structure: support independent of the junction box, a safety cable around a structural member, and, as a recommendation, a threaded pipe secured to a structural member. Hubbardton Forge's Windsor instructions forbid hanging from the electric box alone and call for lag screws into a structural member.
Why Do Glass and Crystal Chandeliers From Arhaus, Pottery Barn and RH Need Assembly on Site?
Because Arhaus, Pottery Barn and RH ship some of their glass and crystal chandeliers with the glass or crystal still to be put on, and it goes on by hand on site. Arhaus says it does this to protect the glass.
- Arhaus says of the Delsie collection: "In order to protect the glass elements in this collection, some assembly upon delivery to your home will be required." The 63-inch oval has nine sockets and tiers of reeded glass panels, plus 24 interchangeable hanging rods, eight each of 6, 12 and 18 inches, to set the drop from about 31 to 169 inches.
- Pottery Barn's Clarissa Crystal Round ships 554 glass drops in the box, 20 of them spares, so 534 get hung one at a time.
- Restoration Hardware's big crystal pieces show up on installer forums. On the Mike Holt electricians' forum, an installer facing an RH 19th Century Rococo Iron and Crystal chandelier put it at 250 pounds with more than 600 crystal pieces. He had already suggested a chandelier lift to the homeowner, and a reply agreed: "it'll be cheaper to install if it's on a lift."
- West Elm and Pottery Barn assembly PDFs carry the same sentence: "We strongly recommend that a professional electrician install all direct wire fixtures." West Elm's adds that the fixture "MUST BE INSTALLED ... BY TWO PERSONS," and Pottery Barn's calls for "the help of another person to hold the weight of the fixture."
We check every arm and socket on the floor, on moving blankets, before a frame goes up. When the instructions call for the glass or crystal to go on after the frame is hung, it goes on by hand one piece at a time with the floor below covered, and on the Delsie the reeded panels went on that way.
How Much Does It Cost to Install an Arhaus or Restoration Hardware Chandelier in Phoenix?
A heavy designer chandelier costs about $400 to $1,500 or more in labor when a rated brace can carry it in a standard-height ceiling, and about $1,000 to $3,500 or more on a high ceiling when the ceiling has to be opened, blocked and patched, per the national cost guides from Modern Chandelier and HomeGuide. Norem Contracting's 184-pound Arhaus Delsie install in central Phoenix, with that full ceiling scope, came to $2,900 over two days. A fixture swap on a sound box and existing wiring runs about $150 to $300. For Phoenix specifically, Angi's cost survey, updated August 2026, puts light fixture installation at an average of $766 with a normal range of $173 to $1,369 and a high end of $3,800.
Heavy chandelier installation costs
| Scenario | Typical range | This job: Arhaus Delsie, 184 lb |
|---|---|---|
| Swap on a sound box, existing wiring, under 50 lb | $150 to $300 | n/a, the box could not carry it |
| Heavy fixture on a rated brace, standard ceiling | $400 to $1,500+ in labor | n/a, 184 lb is past a retrofit brace's fixture rating |
| Ceiling opened, blocking and steel plate into framing, fixture assembled and hung, patch, finish and paint | $1,000 to $3,500+ on a high ceiling (high-ceiling install labor of $700 to $2,000 plus drywall repair of $300 to $1,500+) | $2,900, two days on site |
| Ceiling drywall patch, finish and paint, on its own | $300 to $1,500+ | Included above |
| Scaffolding or a 19 ft scissor lift for a two-story space | Adds $250 to $400 in labor for 16 to 20 ft ceilings; two to five times a standard install in all | Scaffolding, included above |
| Motorized chandelier lift, hardware only | $1,149 to $2,999 sale, $2,310 to $6,180 list, for a 200 to 1,000 lb Aladdin lift | Not needed at 11 ft |
| Rated fan and fixture brace box, part only | $57.85 (Hubbell RACO 936 at Platt Electric Supply) | n/a |
Figures from national cost guides by HomeGuide, Modern Chandelier and Seus Lighting; the lift and brace rows are hardware prices only. The last column is our own job.
The ceiling sets the price more than the fixture does. Weight decides whether it gets opened, and height decides between a ladder, a scaffold and a lift. A smooth painted ceiling takes more days than orange-peel texture, because a patch there takes longer to hide. The rest depends on what turns up in the cavity, like the duct on our job.

How Do You Reach a Chandelier in a Two-Story Foyer?
A chandelier in an 18- to 20-foot Phoenix or Scottsdale foyer goes up from a rolling scaffold tower or a 19-foot electric scissor lift, with a plan for the next bulb change. That height is past what a ladder can do safely with a heavy fixture, and a 19-foot scissor lift is rated for 500 pounds on the platform, people, tools and fixture included. On a North Scottsdale custom home, Norem Contracting hung a two-story ring chandelier from scaffolding, hoisted on its cables with the rings still wrapped. That job is written up in chandelier installation in a North Scottsdale custom home.
Sizing, lift access and mounting for a great room past 20 feet, including vaults and flat foam roofs with no attic, are in hanging a chandelier in a 20-foot Scottsdale great room.
For a fixture that will need cleaning and bulbs for years, a motorized chandelier lift is the long-term fix. Aladdin Light Lift makes residential lifts rated 200, 300, 700 and 1,000 pounds. The motor mounts in the attic directly above the fixture and lowers it on a winch cable, and the hardware alone runs $1,149 to $2,999 at online sale prices, against $2,310 to $6,180 list. The lift's framing and attic access are cheapest to build while the ceiling is already open.
Height is also a design question. The Lumens sizing guide says to keep at least 7 feet of clearance under a foyer chandelier, and in a two-story entry, Capitol Lighting's foyer guide says the bottom of the fixture should hang level with the second floor. Settle the chain or rod count before assembly. RH's Camino instructions warn that a hang height different from what RH.com details voids the fixture's listing.
How High Should a Dining Room Chandelier Hang?
Thirty to 36 inches above the table on an 8-foot ceiling, and 3 inches higher for every foot of ceiling above that, so a 10-foot dining room wants 36 to 42 inches. That's the Lumens guide's number. For diameter, the widely used rule is room length plus width in feet, read as inches, so a 12 by 14 room suggests a fixture about 26 inches across. Over a table, the Lamps Plus guide puts the diameter at one-half to two-thirds of the table's width. On our Arhaus job, the owner had already picked the 63-inch oval before calling us.
Can a Heavy Chandelier Go on a Sloped or Vaulted Ceiling?
Only if the brand allows it for that fixture, and the product page says which. A chain finds plumb on its own, but the canopy still has to seat flat against the angle. A rod or stem needs a swivel canopy to hang plumb, and whether the fixture can go on a slope at all is the brand's call.
- Pottery Barn marks the Mallory crystal round "Not compatible with sloped or slanted ceilings," and lists its Florence linear as compatible with slanted or sloped ceilings.
- Rejuvenation lists the Willamette 48-inch as "Not recommended for sloped ceilings."
- West Elm marks its Bezel, Coco and Hayes linear chandeliers and its Sculptural 7-Light chandeliers "Can be hung from a sloped ceiling," and its discontinued Warren linear "Cannot be hung from a sloped ceiling."
- Restoration Hardware told one Houzz owner that its round pillar candle chandelier cannot be hung from a slanted ceiling, because its fixed-length rods would leave the ring of candles tilted.
A vaulted ceiling also changes the framing question, because the mounting point lands between rafters or trusses at an angle, and the blocking has to give the plate a level bearing so the fixture hangs plumb.
Should a Handyman, an Electrician or a General Contractor Hang a Heavy Chandelier?
In Phoenix, a heavy designer chandelier is a job for a licensed contractor, not a handyman, and a general contractor fits it best when the ceiling has to be opened and reinforced. Arizona's handyman exemption, A.R.S. 32-1121(A)(14), lets an unlicensed person take a job only under $1,000 in labor and materials and only where no building permit is required. The City of Phoenix's own guide to work exempt from permits draws the line at the fixture: replacing a lamp or ballast inside an existing fixture is exempt, but "the replacement of an existing luminaire with a new luminaire does require a permit." Other Valley cities set their own rules.
A heavy chandelier also means ceiling work: framing, blocking, drywall, texture and paint, plus the scaffold day and the assembly. The brands' own instructions point at that work when they ask for a "structural member" and a "solid support structure inside the ceiling." Norem Contracting, ROC #365090, carries the whole job under one contract, from the framing to the finished ceiling and the fixture hung and leveled.

Will Arhaus, Pottery Barn or Rejuvenation install the chandelier when they deliver it?
No. Arhaus's delivery terms say lighting will not be unboxed, inspected, assembled or installed and that its delivery team is not permitted to install any electrical equipment. The delivery text on Pottery Barn's lighting pages excludes lighting and anything that needs home installation from its white glove service, and Rejuvenation's truck delivery leaves out unpacking and setup because the item requires professional installation. The fixture arrives in its crate, and in Phoenix and Scottsdale Norem Contracting takes it from there, ceiling work included.
Can a handyman hang a heavy designer chandelier in Phoenix?
Usually not, for legal and safety reasons. Arizona's handyman exemption, A.R.S. 32-1121, covers unlicensed work only under $1,000 and only where no building permit is required, and the City of Phoenix's own exempt-work guide says replacing an existing light fixture with a new one requires a permit. A heavy chandelier also needs the ceiling opened and reinforced more often than not, which is carpentry, drywall and finish work on top of the fixture. Norem Contracting, a licensed Class B general contractor (ROC #365090), does the ceiling opening, blocking, drywall, patch and paint and the hang itself as one job.
How do I find out what my chandelier weighs before it arrives?
Check the product page and the assembly PDF, and send us both. Arhaus lists a weight with the product dimensions for most of its chandeliers (the Delsie Oval Tiered 63 inch is 184.08 pounds). Pottery Barn prints a Weight line in the product dimensions, and West Elm lists a weight on most of the lighting pages we checked. Some Restoration Hardware spec sheets, such as the Helix and Crystal Halo, carry the weight in kilograms and pounds. Visual Comfort lists it on the product page. If none of those shows a weight, plan around the shipping weight on the freight paperwork.
Is a fan-rated brace box strong enough for a heavy designer chandelier?
Only up to its fixture rating, and that rating depends on the joist spacing. A fan-rated brace is rated for fans of 70 pounds at most, and its makers rate the same hardware for a fixture at about 110 to 210 pounds on 16-inch joist spacing and 50 to 90 pounds on 24-inch spacing, per their spec sheets. Past those numbers, or past 50 pounds anywhere the framing hasn't been seen, the fixture hangs from blocking and a steel plate fastened to the framing.
Can I return the chandelier if it does not work in the room after it is hung?
Check the policy before the install date, because some brands close that door once the fixture is wired. Arhaus's returns page says lighting can't be returned or exchanged once installed, and Lulu and Georgia's says installed lighting can't be returned. Settle hang height, diameter and the look against the ceiling before the crate is opened, with a photo mock-up or a taped outline on the floor. An unopened fixture still falls under the brand's normal return window.
How long does it take to hang a heavy Arhaus or Pottery Barn chandelier?
Plan on two days when the fixture is over 50 pounds and the ceiling has to be opened. Norem Contracting's 184-pound Arhaus Delsie install in Phoenix took two days because the ceiling patch had to dry between coats. A swap onto a sound box on existing wiring is a couple of hours. Crystal and glass add assembly time on site: Arhaus says the Delsie needs some assembly on delivery to protect its glass, and a large Pottery Barn crystal round takes more than 500 drops, each hung by hand.
Can a Pottery Barn, West Elm or Rejuvenation chandelier hang from a sloped ceiling?
Only if the product page allows it for that fixture. Pottery Barn marks the Mallory crystal round as not compatible with sloped or slanted ceilings and lists the Florence linear as compatible with them. Rejuvenation lists the Willamette as not recommended for sloped ceilings, and West Elm says its Bezel, Coco and Hayes linear chandeliers can be hung from a sloped ceiling. A rod- or stem-hung fixture needs a swivel canopy to hang plumb, and the brand decides whether the fixture can go on a slope at all. Send us the product link and a photo of the ceiling and we'll tell you before you order.
What Else Belongs on the Same Estimate as the Chandelier?
Other overhead work in the same part of the house belongs on it. A heavy chandelier install like ours puts a scaffold in the room, opens the ceiling and brings drywall mud and paint on site for two days, and anything that rides on that setup skips a second scaffold day and a second patch-and-paint visit. Scoped with the main job, add-ons commonly come in 25 to 50 percent below the price of a separate visit, so ask for them before the crate arrives, while they can still go on the same estimate.
- A ceiling fan on a box that was never rated for one, which comes down to the same brace-or-blocking decision covered above. See ceiling fan installation.
- Island pendants and wall sconces, hung and leveled on the same visit. See lighting and fixture work.
- Blocking and attic access for a motorized chandelier lift over a foyer or stairwell fixture, framed while the ceiling cavity is open instead of cut in later. See heavy and two-story fixture installation.
- Drywall damage elsewhere in the house, like a nail pop in the hallway or the hole an old fixture left behind, finished while the mud and paint are already out. See drywall repair.
- A mirror or art over the sideboard, centered on the new fixture and hung level while the room is still covered. See mounting art and TVs.
